Common Myths about Trafficking
- The victim knew what he/she was getting into.
- The victim committed unlawful acts.
- The victim was paid for services.
- The victim had freedom of movement.
- There were opportunities to escape, but the victim did not take them.
- Trafficking involves the crossing of borders.
- U.S. citizens cannot be trafficked.
- The trafficker's actions are culturally appropriate.
- It cannot be trafficking when the trafficker and victim are related or married.
